Free

I have spent a lot of time down in the Village and I have to say, I really appreciate the way that people are free to be the person that they have created themselves to be. I don't mean anything negative by that, I just mean that if people want to be gay, straight, goth, Christian, drunk, indie...whatever, they can be. As much as I might not agree with everything that everyone does down there, I can at least admire the fact that they do what they do openly and freely, untouched by the legalism that seems to invade the rest of the states.
At least where I come from at least, legalism seems to run rampant. The south is great, don't get me wrong, but there is just something about it that seems restricting. I grew up in a Christian home and I know what I believe, apart from growing up in it, I have searched things out and figured out what I know is true. But there are so many people in so many churches that are so legalistic in the ways that they conduct their lives and make other people feel like they have to conduct their lives in the same way. I just feel like we all have our own convictions...leave it alone.
But again, that is why I enjoy the Village so much. It's just free to do what you want to do. And that is terribly freeing.
